Defense MechanismIt's precise, the ticking and clicking of the gears. There's oil in your veins, thick and dark. The oil hides your secrets, lubricating the simple machines that operate your clockwork heart. Wedges to force you away from the things you love too much. Pulleys erect walls to keep you safe; it feels like a distant tug at your heartstrings. Somewhere, a lever lifts the corner of your mouth in a smile that looks coquettish in its emptiness. Inside the wheels turn, turning like your stomach. Your eyes are blank; no one can ever know about the screws put to your heart. The sludge pumping through your body keeps you warm, keeps your hands from shakinDefense Mechanism

Dinner with a friendThe trees are weeping leaves again, And it’s been three months since I’ve seen you. We’re having dinner tonight And I should have worn gray; It compliments my hair And every time you look at me With those impossibly blue eyes I see a shadow of disappointment-- So I have to do what I can. You should have told me you loved my long black hair Before it was gone, abbreviated And hued some new shade, like scarlet. But that’s the way we are, isn’t it? I don’t think we ever admitted anything Before it was too late. Not to each other, anyway. Your last girDinner with a friend

Eidetic, DialyticHe doesn't remember how they met, which kills her. Every single second is burned into her mind; the back of his head As he put something down on the hotel nightstand. He turned. The glow from the cheap lamp, serendipity to the point of absurdity; Dingy light, purified by his touch, soaked into his golden curls-- He was backlit. Haloed. She cursed her own awkward nature When she reached out to shake his hand; his grip was strong, His skin warm. It wasn't love at first sight. Not yet.Eidetic, Dialytic
But she wasn't done staring, either. In a fog, she heard someone else make some silly joke And he lau

A moment of weaknessSometimes I just want to go home.A moment of weakness
Home to our big bed, to your skinny, freckled arms, To the house I painted for you while you were a world away. Fuck waking up on this overstuffed suede couch
In my mother's living room, gingerly working the sting out
Of my hyperextended knee and sore back
When I could be drowsily bickering with you
About who has to make our daughter breakfast As the southern sun creeps through our roman blinds. I miss your loud music, the way you hated to do the dishes, Your crazily blue eyes. The way you'd sing along When you thought I was too far

I Wish I MightThe stars are so far away, it looks like they don't move. Stable and constant in white light, floating down to our eyes, we can sail ships by them and learn about the universe. A whole galaxy of color inspiring poems and love songs.I Wish I Might
We can make wishes too. Setting our desire trillions of miles ahead of us where they might just come true, orbiting golden suns and bathing dream planets with hopeful light.

Particle RomanceAn emoton is an elementary particle. Once, they were thought not to exist.Particle Romance
An emoton can only be seen indirectly by its effect on other elementary particles
(much like black holes). String theorists have attempted to make models of the interaction of the emoton
between it and other elementary particles. Again, like black holes,
some models have shown that an emoton's purpose is to act as a singularity
in which quantum mechanics can build upon the universe. Evidence seems to prove this model correct. An emoton's binding force is more
on the order of the weaker gravitational force than the s

You Could Be A PoemAll my arteries and veins mapped out for you. Secret routes through my heart. Paths to my head. You could be inside me where you see my little boy thoughts of forever-love and always-going-to-be-there-ness. The fire that makes my words mean something, you could be the next girl that breaks me.You Could Be A Poem

Daffodils by ~FromTheFieldsOfGold is a poem using caesura with amazing effectiveness. This puppy reads slooooow and wonderful; a true lyrical moment in time that encompasses the category in which this piece is found. To fully realize that this poem has it all, you should all do yourselves a favor and wikipedia "daffodil" as well.
Feel free to stop by and give me lovings, people and enjoy tonight's LoTN!

I've decided to take up the practice myself. I dunno how long I'll keep it up, but hopefully it will give me a reason to go out and find some good writing.
Tonight though I'm starting with a classic, `rebelchic's The Last Walk With Destiny: [link]
